Patricia J. Barker
PartnerPat is a founding member of Barker, Castro & Steinback, LLC and was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1989. Pat is a trial attorney representing hospitals and healthcare providers in cases involving medical malpractice litigation. Pat is involved in extremely high exposure cases with an emphasis on birth trauma, neonatal, pediatric, hospital liability and general health care defense matters. Pat is often involved in these matters even prior to suit being filed because she recognizes that early investigation and an exhaustive analysis of each case leads to the best results for her clients.
Since her early days at Lord, Bissell & Brook, Pat has committed her practice to the defense of health care practitioners from the simplest issues to complex medical negligence cases. Over the years she has garnered the necessary resources and gained access to nationally renowned experts to assist in the defense of cases. Pat is an experienced trial attorney and has successfully tried many catastrophic injury cases to verdict. Although Pat has tried numerous cases over the years, she is also skilled in utilizing alternative dispute resolution, such as mediation and arbitration, to best suit the case and her clients’ needs.
Pat attended Loyola University where she earned her J.D. Following law school, Pat completed a judicial externship with the Honorable Judge Norgle of the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois. Pat is a member of the Chicago Bar Association (Past Member of the Judicial Evaluation Committee), American Bar Association, Chicago Hospital Risk Management Society, American Hospital Association and the Defense Research Institute, the National Association of Professional Women, the American Academy of Trial Attorneys, and the Illinois Society of Trial Lawyers.
